Tilshead Borehole Levels: 29th December 2024

Apologies for how late in the day this bulletin is appearing, but it is, as a friend mentioned earlier today, Twixtmas; so that alone excuses it.  Water levels in the River Till have fallen steadily over the last week, as have levels in the aquifer, so the good news continues.

From the experiences of past years, we would expect one or two more upturns in the water level before the end of March.  It will be interesting to see how the first quarter of 2025 develops.  The forecast will give us more drizzle as we see out the old year, turning to rain towards the end of the week.  There is the slimmest of slim chances that moist air moving in off the Atlantic will bump into cold air over southern England and give us a bit of snow.  That is more likely to be an issue further north, but for those of us who like snow, we can but hope.  The weather for the rest of January will be determined by where the high-pressure zones are centred.  If they go north, the south of England will have untypically cold weather with an even greater chance of snow blowing in from the east.  If the highs are further south then a series of Atlantic fronts will develop, bringing us milder and wetter weather from the west or south-west.  Which weather we get is still highly uncertain.  A happy New Year to all.
