Tilshead Borehole Levels: 22nd December 2024

Another fairly dry week has meant very little water has found its way into the aquifer, so the filling rate has slowed to a crawl.  That’s great news for those in the village with properties prone to groundwater flooding.  Water levels are now 2 metres above the average annual maximum.  The Environment Agency has maintained the Flood Alert for groundwater flooding in the Salisbury Plain area and doesn’t intend to review it until Christmas Eve.  Even if we have no rain over the next week, the water levels in the aquifer seem unlikely to fall enough to trigger its removal.

The weather today is going to be very windy and feel bitterly cold.  Over the next week, we will likely see a cold snap and some drizzly rain, but nothing too significant.   After Boxing Day, and into the New Year, milder, drizzly weather will persist, but no significant rain.  There seems little confidence in the forecast as we move towards mid-January.  At the moment, it looks like drier and much colder weather than normal may be the order of the day, but that view could change by next weekend.

Have a fantastic Christmas.
