Tilshead Borehole Levels: 12th January 2025

Although we only seemed to have a smidgen of snow and very little rain during the early part of the week, it was enough to swing the balance of the water in the aquifer towards an upturn.  Consequently, the Environment Agency Flood Alert remains in force and will be updated in the next 24 hours or so.  It seems unlikely that it will change.

Without more rain, the rate of climb will slow and eventually, the water level will begin to fall again.  So it all depends on what the weather has in store for us.  We expect a dry but sometimes overcast week with temperatures close to the seasonal average.  We may face a bit more drizzly sleet when we get to next Sunday, but nothing too extreme and that trend continues to the end of January.  Then you should expect a string of wet and windy westerly systems to move in over the south of England bringing a spell of wetter weather in early February.  The possibility of snow remains in the background for a few weeks yet.
